Modalert (modafinil) can influence brain function, but it does not permanently change brain structure in healthy users. It works by altering levels of key neurotransmitters such as dopamine, norepinephrine, and histamine, enhancing alertness, focus, and wakefulness. By blocking the reuptake of dopamine, Modalert increases dopamine availability in certain brain regions, which improves cognitive performance and motivation.

Modalert may improve working memory, decision-making, and executive function temporarily. However, these effects are generally reversible once the drug is discontinued, brain activity usually returns to baseline. There is no strong evidence that Modalert causes lasting neurological changes with responsible, short-term use.
