  • Santa Busted Canvas DIY

Terina makes special holiday decor with a Santa busted canvas. Everyone at your holiday parties will be asking where you got it, and you’ll be able to say “I made it!” Follow the tutorial now in the Holiday Hits special on the Made It Myself TV app, online, or read on for an overview of the project. To create this craft, Terina used a three holiday stencils, chalk paste, a blank canvas, and hot glue. Start by using the Santa stencil and chalk paste to create the 3 dimensional Santa which will be "busting" through the canvas. You can create the outline and then once dry, add the colors. If needed, go back over the Santa with the same stencil and black to make it really pop. Prepare the back of the canvas with a music sheet stencil and black chalk paint. When the canvas is cut open, this is the part you will see curled around to the front. On the front of the canvas, use another stencil and various colors of chalk paint, thinned with distilled water, to create the front design. Most of this design will not be visible after cutting open the canvas. Glue your Santa head on a background that is the same size as the frame. After cutting the frame open (see below) you will glue the background+Santa to the frame. Open your frame and start peeling back the layers. Use hot glue to secure the corners of the folds. Enjoy your magical Christmas decoration! Interested in more busted canvas crafts? Watch this video from Feeling Nifty!

  • DIY Star of David Suncatcher — Clay & Resin Craft Tutorial

If you’re looking for a beautiful handmade decoration for Hanukkah or simply want to create a meaningful, light-catching piece of art, this Star of David suncatcher is the perfect project. Sugar Gay Isber brings Made It Myself TV her step by step tutorial. With just a bit of clay, some resin, and a simple freezer bag, you can make a stunning hanging ornament that glows beautifully in a window. Prepare Your Work Surface Lay down a freezer bag on your work surface, which should be flat. This will act as a non-stick base and allow you to peel your resin shape off easily later. You’ll build the Star of David right on top of it. Place a drawing/template inside the bag to work on top. Roll Out Your Clay Take a small amount of clay and roll it into thin, even “snake” ropes. These will form the lines that create the Star of David design. Try to keep the thickness consistent so your final suncatcher looks neat and symmetrical. Press the clay firmly into the plastic bag so there aren't any leaks beneath it. Form the Star of David Using your clay ropes: Shape the stars Lay them flat onto the freezer bag. Gently press the clay pieces where they overlap to help them hold together. Use a craft knife to trim the ends or sharpen corners as needed. Once you’re happy with the shape, you can smooth the clay with a damp finger or a silicone tool. Be sure to create holes at top and bottom for threading. Prepare Your Resin Decide on the look you want: Clear glass effect  → Use clear resin Stained glass look  → Add drops of resin dye Shimmering finish  → Mix glitter or mica powder Stir slowly to avoid bubbles. Fill the Star With Resin Once your clay frame is dry and firmly stuck to the freezer bag: Use a small brush or silicone tool to carefully apply resin inside each section of the star. Keep the resin thin — if it’s too thick, it may spill over the clay edges. Pop any bubbles with a toothpick or heat tool. The freezer bag acts like a mold backing, keeping the resin smooth and glossy on one side. Dry Lay flat overnight to dry and set. Sand & String If you have any stray resin edges, gently sand them down or trim them off. Thread fishing line, ribbon, or cord through the hole. Tie securely. Display Your Suncatcher Hang your Star of David suncatcher in a sunny window and watch it glow. The resin catches and scatters the light, turning your handmade symbol into a radiant piece of art.
